Teen calorie questions
How many calories should a 15-year-old eat?
Most 15-year-old girls need about 1,800 to 2,400 calories a day and most boys about 2,200 to 3,200, depending on size and activity. The calculator gives a number for your own body.
Should teenagers count calories?
Generally no. For most teens, eating regular balanced meals and listening to hunger works better than counting. A calculator like this is useful for a rough idea, especially for athletes.
Can a teenager go on a diet to lose weight?
Teens shouldn't cut calories hard on their own, because it can affect growth, energy and mood. If weight is a concern, a doctor can help plan safe changes, usually focused on activity and food quality.
Why do teen boys eat so much?
Growth spurts, bigger muscles and lots of sport all use energy. A very active, fast-growing teenage boy can need more food than most adults.
Why does this calculator stop at 18?
From 19, bodies have mostly finished growing, so adult equations work better. Adults can use our main calorie calculator.
